Protecting and restoring our natural heritage

Climate change and the loss of biodiversity threatens every part of the planet. But it is something we can address by acting locally.

Our vision is to create a community-owned nature reserve in one of our most exceptional wild places. We can reverse the decline in biodiversity and mitigate against climate change.

Help us to support wildlife.

Bridestones is a hotspot for rare animals and plants. Curlew, lapwing, red grouse, golden plover and other red-listed bird species breed here in the spring. Four species of owls regularly hunt over the peatlands, along with the occasional hen harrier and peregrine falcon. Sphagnum mosses and cotton grass are essential for the healthy functioning of the peat bog and for locking-in carbon, which would otherwise escape into the atmosphere. We aim to enhance the environment for these rare animals and plants. Learn more about our project by signing up to our newsletter.

It’s not too late! Changing the world is entirely possible.

The land around Bridestones has been degraded by draining the bog, followed by many decades of hard-grazing. But we have a well thought-out plan to restore nature and create an environment that supports more wildlife. Our “boots on the ground” approach to conservation brings years of experience in ecology from our leadership team. We are results driven. Our actions are designed to benefit wildlife and to engage you in our local community conservation plan.
